Tre Ponti Easy Fit Harness Review

The Tre Ponti harness is the one Chamggae, my Dachshund, has worn for the longest time.

Ever since I adopted Chamggae, I have lost count of how many harnesses I have bought. Short legs are certainly cute, but a Dachshund’s broad, muscular chest makes finding the right harness a real headache. Because of their unique body shape, even finding clothes that fit Dachshunds can be quite challenging. ^^

I bought this harness in 2018, and Chamggae has been wearing this Tre Ponti harness for nearly nine years.

During all those years, it has never caused any sores or injuries on Chamggae’s body. The harness shows signs of age, but it is still in good condition. Its durability is impressive.

This is definitely one of those dog products that I feel was worth every penny.

However, there is a reason I am updating this post. As Chamggae has gotten older and gained some weight, the original harness no longer fits properly. I have decided to replace it with a larger Tre Ponti harness. I wanted to update this review before publishing a separate post about the new harness.

I have tried several Puppia harnesses, a brand commonly used by Dachshund owners, but they caused sores around Chamggae’s armpits. Unfortunately, I can no longer use them.

One possible reason is that Chamggae’s chest protrudes more than that of many other Dachshunds.

One day, a Tre Ponti harness arrived at our home. My wife told me that she had carefully researched the options before finally choosing and ordering this one.

The harness has a very simple design.

Because of its simplicity, I thought it would fit around Chamggae’s chest without putting too much pressure on it or restricting movement.

However, I did wonder whether it would hold Chamggae securely if something unexpected happened, or whether the harness might come off.

We purchased size 3.

Tre Ponti harness with Made in Italy label

The label says “Made in Italy,” so this is another dog product that has made its way here from overseas.

I find it interesting how many dog products seem to come from European brands.

Dachshund wearing a red Tre Ponti harness on a walk

We took Chamggae out for a walk wearing the Tre Ponti harness for the first time.

One advantage of this harness is that it does not need to be slipped over the dog’s head to put it on.

Many dogs dislike having things pulled over their heads, but that was not an issue with this design.

The front section of the harness sits across the chest, as shown in the photo.

I am not sure how clearly the picture shows it, but Chamggae has a particularly prominent chest, which makes finding a suitable harness quite difficult.

The harness fastens with a buckle on top.

When we first head out for a walk, Chamggae usually shows discomfort with a new harness by trying to bite or chew at it.

With this Tre Ponti harness, however, Chamggae did not show any of that behavior and started walking comfortably right away.

Here is a side view of Chamggae lying down.

Looking at this photo, the harness seems a little too large.

There is a buckle on top, but it offers no room for adjustment, which made me a bit concerned.

Dachshund in a Tre Ponti harness at dusk with reflective white trim

As it started getting dark, I noticed that the Tre Ponti harness seemed to have some reflective features.

The white trim appeared to reflect light, which could provide a little extra visibility at night.

However, I did not expect it to make a huge difference in a brightly lit urban area. In a very dark place, though, the reflective parts might stand out much more when light shines on them.

Unfortunately, this reflective effect did not last very long.

We purchased size 3, but I am still not sure whether we should have chosen one size smaller.

When I held the leash and Chamggae was moving around, the harness seemed to fit reasonably well. However, when Chamggae was simply wearing it without moving, one of the legs could slip out of the harness.

I wondered whether I should have bought the stopper-style version instead of the buckle type. I would need to use it for a little longer to figure that out.

One drawback of this buckle-style Tre Ponti harness is that its size cannot be adjusted at all.

The strap around the top buckle has a little room to move back and forth. I thought I might be able to sew part of it in place to make the harness slightly smaller.

It would have been much better if there had been at least some room for size adjustment. This is one aspect of the design that I found disappointing.

Product I Use

Tre Ponti Easy Fit

Measure your dog’s chest girth before choosing a size. The buckle version cannot be adjusted, so the right size matters.
