In January 2026, I was suffering from severe neck and shoulder stiffness, which even caused migraines. After looking for a solution, I decided to purchase the Philips Neck and Shoulder Massager.
It has now been more than nine months since I bought it, so this should be a fairly long-term review.
One thing that is a little disappointing is that the price has dropped quite a bit since I purchased it.

I was concerned that the massager might break because it is a device that applies considerable pressure, so I purchased an extended care plan for added protection.

When you take it out of the outer packaging, you will find the product box inside.
The model number is PPM3523.

When you open the box, you can see that it is designed to let you work while receiving a neck and shoulder massage.
I’ll come back to this point later in the review.

The product is wrapped in plastic.

After taking it out of the box, I found that it was fairly heavy.
As for the design, I wouldn’t say it is particularly attractive.

The biggest difference with the Philips Neck and Shoulder Massager is its massage heads, which are made of metal.
The heads are also completely exposed.

Fingerprints have already appeared on the surface, making it look a little less appealing in the photo.
Since the heads are made of metal, I wondered whether they might feel cold against the skin.

Here is the control panel.
The buttons are for power, intensity adjustment, and temperature adjustment.
Since this is an area you operate with your fingers, I found myself wondering how durable the controls would be.

I’m glad to see a USB-C port.
Since I already have plenty of USB-C cables, I figured I wouldn’t have to worry about finding a charging cable.
I took a quick look through the manual.
Unfortunately, it says that you should use a 5V/2A power adapter.
These days, most of my USB-C cables are connected to fast-charging adapters, so this was a bit inconvenient.

In the end, I had to purchase a separate 5V/2A adapter.
For reference, the massager does charge with a fast-charging adapter, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so.
Philips Neck and Shoulder Massager Review
First, I was concerned that the metal massage heads might feel cold. However, thanks to the heating function, I actually like the metal design even more.
After running the massager for a while, the heads become warm, which feels very pleasant.
Apparently, because the heads are made of metal, you can also use massage oil or cream with them, which is another nice feature.
Does the Massage Feel Good?
It doesn’t feel particularly soothing in the way a professional massage might, but it definitely helps relieve muscle stiffness.
How can I tell that the stiffness has improved?
When I use the massager at the same intensity, areas that were painful enough to make me cry out during the previous session are no longer nearly as painful the next time.
But There Is One Problem
As I mentioned earlier, the massager doesn’t fit snugly against your body when you try to work while wearing it.
The product photos make it look as though you can wear the massager and walk around while going about your daily activities. However, when I wear it that way, the massage doesn’t feel particularly effective. The massage heads seem to move around without making proper contact.
You Need a Sofa
If you want a satisfying massage, you need to sit back and lean against a sofa.
In other words, the massage feels better when you use your body weight to press the massager against your neck and shoulders.
I wouldn’t particularly recommend pulling the massager forward with your hands, either.
You Can Use It on Other Parts of Your Body, Too
As I mentioned, when using it on your neck and shoulders, you need to lean back against a sofa and apply some pressure to get a satisfying massage.
However, when you use it on other parts of your body, the intensity can be surprisingly strong.
I once placed my calves and thighs on the massager and turned it on. I almost regretted doing so because the pressure was so intense!
After using the Philips Neck and Shoulder Massager for more than nine months, I’ve summarized my overall experience.
It cannot compare with a neck and shoulder massage performed by another person using their hands. Nevertheless, I continue to use it because it helps relieve muscle stiffness with a pleasant warming sensation.
I used it quite frequently when I first bought it, but these days, I think I use it about once a week.
